Elizabeth Gillies & Parker Young Talk "Animal"

Pink Is The New Blog exclusively spoke to Liz and her co-star and on-screen boyfriend Parker Young about their movie Animal. Here are a few excerpts:
PITNB: Liz, since we’re on the subject of moving about, I saw on Twitter that you’re liking New York a little more these days. What was the story was behind that?
Liz: Well, what I meant to say was that I like New York so much better than LA.
PITNB: Ah, okay.
Liz: I’m from New Jersey, so New York is like home to me. Every time I come back I fall more and more in love with it. I’m really not meant to live in LA. It’s too sunny for me (laughs)

ITNB: You’re both working on transitioning from TV to film. What’s the biggest challenge for both of you moving between the two mediums?
Parker: In television there seem to be a lot more cooks in the kitchen—all of the executives and other people telling you what you can and cannot do. That can be a little difficult in terms of trying be authentic.
Liz: Coming from kids’ TV is a challenge in and of itself. To be well-respected, and to be taken seriously—that’s been my biggest challenge. Film is also very intimate, it’s quieter. It is different, but the transition is not too hard. Getting the opportunities is a little tricky, but it’s all coming along.
Parker: And it’s changing now too! So many big movie stars are coming back to TV, and things are different now with these original series on Netflix and DirecTV.

PITNB:Liz, I know you have a huge fanbase. How are you describing the film to your fans? What’s the draw for them?
Liz: I think they’re excited to see me in a different light. And what’s interesting about Animal is that it sounds like a cliché horror movie, but it really bashes in all of those stereotypes. That’s what drew me to it. It’s got a throwback feel, but it also has it’s own take on the whole ‘stuck in the woods’ thing. It’s more of a drama. It’s pulpy, and it’s funny! So I think they’ll be excited because it’s different and, like me, they like things that are different.

PITNB: Liz, you diva! What’s next for you? Do you have any new music coming out?
Liz: Yes, I’ve been writing new music. And I actually have a Lifetime movie coming out next month called Killing Daddy, which was so much fun. I treated it like a mixture of Hush with Jessica Lange, and Killing Daddy, and I went super over-the-top with it. I think I acted like Joan Crawford for the whole movie. (laughs)
PITNB: Awesome!
Liz: I also shot a pilot for FX called Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll. So I’m waiting to see if it got picked up. I’m hoping to get the chance to move back to New York.
